Our Suffering is Their Choice

I’m writing this post after reading that America is sending another $675 million in weapons to Ukraine. Over the last six months, America has given Ukraine billions of dollars. At the same time, Jackson, MS has no clean running water. Millions of Americans throughout the West are being told to reduce energy use during a record September heat wave that seen tempe`ratures top 100 degrees on a regular basis in many communities.

The sad reality is that America’s politicians following the orders of their corporate masters have spent decades ignoring the crumbling of America’s infrastructure. In every instance, lining the pockets of weapons manufacturers, banks, drug companies, and corporations in general has been America’s priority. To enable their corporate bought agenda to succeed, government ensures that the most suffering is experienced by people living in deliberately segregated minority communities. Jackson, MS is more than 80% black. Flynt, MI, where the people haven’t had clean water for years, is a majority black community.

While an increasing number of Americans don’t have access to safe running water, and millions of Americans are forced to suffer through unbearable heat waves without air conditioning to stabilize the failing power grid, America has no trouble paying American corporations to manufacture weapons for Ukraine.

America has the money and technology to ensure every American has access to safe, clean water. America has the money and technology to ensure every American has access to stable, reliable energy. What America doesn’t have is the compassion to provide every American safe, clean water and stable, reliable energy.

Simply put, the profits of corporations matter more to both political parties than does the ability of Americans to access safe water and to survive heat waves.

I'd love to hear from you.
