The celebrations of Queen Elizabeth and her reign as queen highlight how many have been manipulated into supporting the systems that oppress them. I’m not saying people should celebrate a loss of life, as some are doing, but anyone interested in an equitable world should not be upset by the death of a queen.

Queen Elizabeth shouldn’t be celebrated and monarchies shouldn’t exist. The reality that a few hundred thousand British people slept in the street while the queen was dying in one of her many palaces exemplifies the corruption and immorality involved with monarchies. The fact that hundreds of thousands of British children are going hungry while taxpayers subsidize a billionaire lifestyle for a family where no one has truly held a job for decades defines inequity. And, of course, the reality that much of the Windsor family’s wealth was made by centuries of enslaving, abusing, and exploiting people of color around the globe demonstrates the immorality necessary to enrich so-called elites who get richer without working.
Queen Elizabeth and her family are not examples anyone should follow. Their societal roles illustrate everything wrong with Western society. If you believe Queen Elizabeth was an important voice, you believe the world should be dedicated to enriching a very few at the expense of everyone else.
For the world to have any chance at an equitable future, all monarchies should be eliminated, all of the stollen wealth should be returned to the countries from which it has been stollen, and all former monarchs should have to actually work to support them and their families. I’m not delusional. I doubt this will ever happen. That truth is one of the reasons why I doubt anything approaching an equitable world is possible. That truth is why I know most people don’t actually care about suffering and lack compassion for others.
Worst of all, the outpouring of love for a woman who embodies much of what is wrong with the world while outright hostility is shown to people living on the streets highlights how well most people can be convinced to believe what the elites want believed.
