Deal Breaker is the first book written by Harlan Coben. I decided to read Deal Breaker because I have enjoyed the other books written by Coben I have read. Like the other books written by Coben I have read, I enjoyed Deal Breaker.
Myron Bolitar (Myron) is a former college basketball player who blew out his knee in training camp with the Boston Celtics and never played in a regular season NBA game. At the beginning of Deal Breaker, Myron is a sports agent who has just landed his biggest client to date.
Christian Steele (Christian) is a rookie quarterback poised to make it big in the NFL when he gets a call from an ex-girlfriend everyone, including the police, thinks is dead. Realizing the news could affect Steele’s earnings and wanting to uncover the mystery, Myron begins to investigate.
As the plot unfolds, we aren’t really sure if Christian’s ex is dead or alive. But with the help of his best friend and his own ex, who happens to be the missing woman’s sister, Myron keeps getting closer to the truth. The closer he gets, the more dangerous things become.
Deal Breaker was one of the more interesting fiction books I have read in a few years. I wound up reading the whole thing in one day. I really had to know what happened. When I finished, I was truly surprised by the ending. Maybe it shouldn’t have been as surprising to me as it was, but I really didn’t see that coming.
If you enjoy mysteries, you will really enjoy Deal Breaker. I am looking forward to starting the next book in the Myron Bolitar series. I love book series. I enjoy seeing how the characters change over time.
