Tess Gerritsen’s The Mephisto Club is the fifth book in her Rizzoli & Isles series. While the Mephisto Club isn’t the best book in the series, it was an enjoyable read. I really like Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles as characters. The twists and turns in The Mephisto Club were exciting enough to keep me interested and guessing.
The premise behind the Mephisto Club is a group of people use their skills, connection, and wealth to track down evil. While the premise leads to more discussion of religion and evil than I like in a story, the characters and what they were doing kept me reading. The moral dilemmas faced by some of the characters, especially Dr. Isles, kept me thinking.
In all, The Mephisto Club isn’t Tess Gerritsen’s best work. Still, she is such a good writer that it’s worth a read.
