My 2018

I’m a little late with this, but it’s time to recap my 2018. On the whole, 2018 was a great year for me. I left 2018 feeling as good about the future as I can remember.

This year in review will have two main sections:

  • Accomplishments
  • Things that Didn’t go as Planned

Accomplishments

The biggest thing to happen in 2018 was my finally finding a job. Even better is I found a job where I can use my legal knowledge and life experience to make a real difference. All of that and I’m making a decent living too. It sure beats Social Security and SNAP.

I have been able to start making some needed improvments on the house. The gutter system, which was failing, has been completely replaced. The backyard, which was highlighted by a patio that had begun crumbling and dead grass, now has a great new deck and an artificial turf lawn. During the summer, Mom named the house The Oasis. All the hours we spent in the backyard is a big reason why we now have The Oasis.

This isn’t really an accomplishment but adopting Mr. Rogers was a true highlight for 2018. Mr. Rogers is a wonderful cat. I never imagined myself a cat person. Now, I can’t imagine my life without the little fella.

In 2018, I continued learning about me and hopefully improving things that need work. I feel like work helped me get better at not worrying as much about things I can’t control. I won’t say I’m great at turning it off, but I know I have gotten better.

When I first started working, I had trouble sticking to any kind of a schedule. By December, I had gotten myself into a pretty regular rhythm. Given my battle with insomnia, I hope I can keep this going.

I did a good job regularly reading newspapers and books. Reading is important to me. I love knowing what’s happening, even if it’s sometimes bad news, and I know I have much more to learn.

Things That Didn’t go as Planned

I had my worst year of exercising since I began exercising in 2008. While I never missed an entire week of workouts, I rarely had a week where I exercised five times. This is one way working hurt me. It’s a lot easier to find time to exercise when you’re not working. How’s that for pointing out the obvious?

On a related note, I didn’t do a good enough job with my diet in 2018. It was too easy to come home, load up on food, and shortly after go to bed. During the summer, the appeal of regular barbecues and ice cream was too much. And, of course, I drank way more Coke than I should have.

Another year came and went without me finding love. Even though that certainly wasn’t the plan, I’m optimistic that as I continue improving I’m getting closer.

After once again wasting time on online dating, I have finally quit it for good. I have also quit the Facebook relationship groups I used to visit. For some reason, I have feeling it will wind up just happening. I will meet someone somewhere and it will work.

Ufi’s health, although not something I can really control, didn’t go well in 2018. He had multiple skin and ear infections. It took us almost the entire year to find a combination of medicines that work for him at this stage of his life. At least he is beginning 2019 in good shape.

Conclusion

That’s what I have to say about my 2018. I hope your 2019 is off to a good start. Let’s make 2019 a great one!
